Is this an opening decision, or am I facing one?

1 · Table

2 · What to drill

"Opening" means nobody's acted — is your hand wide enough for this seat? "Facing a raise" means someone before you has already opened — do you have enough equity against their range to continue?

3 · How hands get dealt

Uniform deals every hand with its real, natural frequency — closer to an actual session, but most hands you're dealt (AA, 72o) were never really in question. "Near the borderline" deals more hands close to the actual raise/fold or call/fold line, so more of your reps are genuine decisions.

4 · Table texture

Scales how wide everyone's ranges are, opening and continuing alike.

5 · Stack depth

Only shapes the Full-checklist playability step. Deep stacks add an implied-odds callout for pairs and suited connectors. Short stacks replace that step with a note instead of a graded question — below ~30bb this stops being an opening-range-percentage decision and becomes push/fold math, which this trainer doesn't model. Standard changes nothing.

6 · How deep to drill

Quick asks only for the final action, like today. Full checklist makes you commit an answer at each step first — how many players are left to act, this seat's range (baseline, then adjusted for tonight's table), why the hand plays, then the action — and, if you don't fold, a continuation-plan question for the flop.

What's fixed, not asked

To keep setup short: raises are always sized to 2.5 BB, blinds are 0.5/1 BB, and the facing-a-raise branch only tests call-vs-fold — 3-betting has its own fold-equity math that isn't modeled here yet. Opening decisions are raise-vs-fold (or raise-vs-check on your option when it's limped to the big blind).
